Packaging

Although the packaging industry is less cyclical than many other sectors of the economy, softer demand resulting from the recent global recession temporarily interrupted the growth rates of many industry participants. With a return to economic stability, producers in the plastic rigid packaging, glass, metal, flexible packaging, folding carton, corrugated, label and other segments are benefitting from recoveries in consumer spending and industrial activity.

With a rebound in public market valuations, renewed customer demand, and improvements in the availability of financing, the pace of transaction activity among private equity and strategic acquirers is accelerating. The industry knowledge and financial skills of Carbide Partners' senior professionals can help business owners and investors in the packaging industry in a variety of ways. For business owners contemplating sale alternatives, Carbide Partners can identify attractive strategic opportunities in an improving market. For owners and investors who seek to expand, Carbide Partners can help shape strategies for growth and raise the capital necessary to acquire weaker competitors and consolidate fragmented markets.

Mark Kammert, Managing Partner and Head of Carbide Partners’ Packaging Group, has extensive experience in the packaging industry. On behalf of a private equity sponsor, Mr. Kammert in 2004 recruited an operating partner with strong packaging industry experience and formed a holding company to consolidate the fragmented blown-extruded polyethylene film industry. The holding company reviewed over 50 acquisition candidates and completed two transactions in 2004 and 2007. In addition, from 2005 to 2009, Mr. Kammert served as a member of the board of directors for a private equity-backed packaging converter with manufacturing operations in North America, Europe and South America.
